High School Foods Class

Ms. Adam's and Ms. Maggie's High School Foods Class made Mac and Cheese and hot dogs, too.  As you can see, they really enjoyed preparing the gourmet meal.  The teachers are disappointed that they didn't share!

6th Grade Cave Painting

Mrs. Chaney and Mrs. Andrew's 6th grade class had a project called Cave Painting which led them to an understanding of what the world was like before written records. They sponge painted on their cardboard "caves!" The students were instructed to tell a story about their people using symbols and pictographs which was harder for them than they thought. One student told a story about a hunt when the animals were plenty and people ate well that season. Another student told of animals and plants that were plentiful in the area during the season of full sun. It was a fun, messy, truly creative project that the students really enjoyed!

RIF

On Friday, September 18th, there was a book fair in the cafeteria during lunch for RIF (Reading is Fundamental). Every student got to choose two chapter books to keep for their own personal use. The students brought their two chapter books back to the cottage on Friday. This will help encourage the students to read more books! This event will take place several times over the course of the year. Happy reading!

Corn Husk Dolls

Mrs. Chaney and Mrs. Andrew’s 8th grade American History class made Corn Husk dolls in conjunction with their chapter on North American Indians.  They wanted the students to see how to make toys out of materials that were available to them back then since there was no Wal-Mart to go to!  The students really enjoyed this project!

Middle School Science Lab

Mrs. Lunn and Mrs. Armitage's 8th Grade Science class participated in a lab activity of investigating stimulus and response. During the lab the students assessed the earthworms' responses to light and dark environments. They concluded that the worms move to their ideal environment which was the black construction paper that represented the dark, moist environment that they live in. The students enjoyed the lab activity and also got to enjoy gummy worms as they worked on the conclusion questions!
